Favourite Places to Eat in Sinchon (Part 3)

This is a continuation from the first and second part I posted earlier. There are many places I have been missing since I came back to Singapore and here are some of them.

Gosami 고삼이

Here’s a really affordable and good place to eat grilled fish in Sinchon. Gosami is a favourite place to eat amongst students because of its price tag. Each of us would spend an average of 5,000 KRW per meal when we eat here. The food is also really good too.

The place isn’t fancy but for the price and taste, you should definitely try! The grilled mackerel costs around 7,500 – 8,500 KRW and can be shared by 2-3 people. Their stirred fried spicy squid is also a must-try I would say! It’s really spicy though, so be careful. One portion costs 6500 KRW and we always share it among 4 people. We also had the bean paste stew which was 5,000 KRW; again we shared it.

Here’s how to get there:

Chakhan Dweji 착한 돼지

This KBBQ Buffet was definitely a gem in Sinchon! With just 9,900 KRW on the weekday lunches, 10,900 KRW on weekday dinners and weekend lunches and 11,900 KRW on weekend dinners, you get 2 hours free flow KBBQ.

Not only that, the are so many types of meat available for you to grill: all sorts of pork parts, beef, chicken and even duck! They also have marinated and non-marinated meat. Not to mention the plentiful side dishes and vegetables to choose from. They also serve some dessert options. If you want to get free flow soda or other sweet drinks, you can choose to pay 1,000 KRW extra per person to do so.

The place is located on top of Sinchon’s arcade (신촌 짱오락실) so the entrance is relatively small and you’ll need to climb a narrow flight of stairs to get there. Just look for the bright orange sign (in the picture above) and you will know that it’s there.

Delicious Sundubu Jjigae House 맛있는순두부찌개집

This place is the place to go for Sundubu Jjigae or Korean spicy tofu soup. Even the name of the restaurant shows that their specialty is the Sundubu Jjigae :D.  They serve all sorts of variation of the soup including the classic seafood version to the fusion ham and cheese one all ranging between 6,000 KRW to 8,000 KRW. Personally, I always go for ham & cheese 😀

The best thing about this place is that it is open 24 hours! So instead of having macs in the middle of the night, try having a hearty meal here for supper. Also, not to forget their free flow self-service rice, side dishes, seaweed and raw eggs. My friends even made a mini Bibimbap with all the free flow sides. Tip: add the raw eggs into your soup when it’s still boiling hot. Add 2 eggs if you really love eggs, like me 🙂

This map shows where you can find this restaurant, it’s at the corner (like in the photo above) so it shouldn’t be hard to find. Again please don’t rely on the street view feature because Google last updated it in 2009 😮 (That’s why Naver Maps is better in Korea!)
