Ho Chi Minh City Hotel Review: Asian Ruby Center Point Hotel

During my trip to Vietnam earlier this year, we stayed in Asian Ruby Center Point Hotel at District 1. I booked my room via Booking.com because they allowed for free cancellation up to three days before arrival! Here is my review on the Asian Ruby Center Point Hotel, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Location

The hotel is in a very strategic location in District 1, around 30 minutes by taxi from the airport. It is within walking distance to the Union Square, Opera House and many other attractions in Ho Chi Minh City so you will save some transportation cost when exploring the area.

Right across the hotel is a small late night local hangout place. After a night tour around the district on our arrival day, we decided to try the place out because we saw many locals there even at 10PM. My local friend had to order for us because the menus was all in Vietnamese.

We tried out 3 dishes: fried tofu with century egg and chicken floss, stir fry beef liver and pig intestines. I only had the fried tofu as internal organs were not my cup of tea. We also tried Saigon beer and it’s definitely one of my favourite beers!

At the street of the hotel, there were many small clothing stores and a famous Vietnamese coffee and tea chain store called Phuc Long – I drank at least one cup of Phuc Long Lychee tea every day when I was there!

The Room

We stayed in a twin room on the second floor during our stay. Although the hotel is a boutique hotel, they still had a small lift for us to carry our bags up after checking-in. Generally the hotel is not very spacious perhaps because it is located in the city center but the room had an okay amount of space for two and the bathroom even had a bathtub! The other amenities are standard ones given by almost all hotels including a safe, hairdryer, towels, etc.

One thing to note is that there is a small bar at the bottom of the hotel so it can get pretty noisy up to midnight especially if you stay on the second floor like us. If you are a light sleeper, you may want to request for a room on the higher floors.

Other Comments, Price & Conclusion

The hotel itself looked very clean and new and the staff were very friendly. They also provided breakfast but we did not get to try it because my local friend took us out for breakfast every day.

I would say that the stay was good but not exceptionally amazing although the location was excellent. I recommend staying here if you are looking for convenient access to the city center and am on a budget although the room prices are not exactly very cheap (60 to 70 SGD per room).
